Class Skill Level + FAQs
We’ve added a Skill Level Rating to each class to help you better gauge how intensive or easy going the classes will be!
1 = Beginner – no experience needed, just a desire to learn more about cooking and/or baking!
3 = Intermediate – basic kitchen knowledge, basic knife skills, comfortable in the kitchen
5 = Advanced – knowledge/experience of the class topic would be beneficial at this skill level, very comfortable in the kitchen
What should I expect? We try to write our class descriptions thoroughly so you know what you’re getting in to, including a ratio of hands on to demonstration. Ffor example a 60/40 ratio means 60% of the class time you can expect to be actively cooking/preparing food and 40% of the class time an instructor will be demonstrating/educating the class.
What should I wear? With our hands-on classes you will be standing a lot so we recommend a comfortable pair of shoes. As for clothes, we provide aprons so wear what you’re comfortable in!
What if I can no longer make it to a class I signed up for? You can find information on our cancellation policy below. This policy is in place to protect our instructors as they prepare well in advance for the classes.
Can you accommodate dietary restrictions? We ask that you choose classes that fit within your dietary guidelines as it can be difficult to accommodate a food allergy on the fly during the class. It is a shared-use commercial kitchen and we offer a variety of classes so keep in mind that every type of allergen has at some point been processed at Square One.
Does the class result in a meal? Most classes result in a meal where you get to eat what you have prepared. Keep in mind that our baking classes do not but we do try to schedule them so they do not fall over a regular meal time just for that reason.
Can I attend a class on my own? Cooking classes are great way to meet new people and we highly encourage everyone to attend a class!
How are classes structured? Most classes you can expect to be split into smaller teams of 2-4 people depending on the dishes being prepared.
Is there alcohol available during the class? Yes! We have wine and beer available for purchase by the glass. Outside alcohol cannot be brought in.
Cancellations within 72 hours or No Show/No Call at start of class time will not be eligible for a refund or credit, no exceptions. However, you can transfer your registration to another person and would just need to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to update the name on the registration.
If there is a waitlist for the class and someone is able to take your spot from the waitlist, upon completion of that transaction, you would receive a refund.
